Kara Fatima Khanum a Kurdish Amazon – The female chaftain of a Kurdish tribe from Marash
Kara Fatima is a Kurdish personality who was very popular in the 19th century in Europe because she was a female warrior: “A Kurdish amazaon”- The Turkish sultan had captured her husband, therefore, she offered herself a warrior in the Sultan army with her 10,000 strong men. She was a Kurdish clan leader. In the pre-Islamic Kurdish culture women could have leading positions in society.
